Welcome to all new members! A helpful hint to avoid double spacing of code in a ProBoards forum such as this one. Use the BBCode tab at the bottom of the editor before composing your post or reply. Here is screen shot of where it is: A great way to practice with it would be to introduce yourself and your Basic experience, how you found us... or just say, "Hello world!"

Hey charliejv , good to see you again, it's been so long LOL I was going to say I'm like your roadie, but that didn't sound right. Maybe I'm more like part of your "entourage"? Man, wherever we can celebrate BASIC, I'm signing up and I've got my pom-pom's raring to go!

qb64.boards.net/post/219Thank you for welcome. Also for this code that will be useful. This QB64 needs something like this, work on Linux and Windows. Otherwise I have to use Dav's subroutine. That's better for text-only screen. I don't like what's happening with Phoenix. Using OS dialog boxes, I prefer do-it-yourself. Your code is slow. I have to study it. But it is good enough for my purposes. I try to find a way to make dialog a bit smaller.

Hello Everyone, Sorry if I'm posting to the wrong thread but I haven't found a more suited one. My question is: would anyone know about the expected release date for version 2.1.1 that fixes problems with Win32? I would also be satisfied with an interim version that is available for download at own risk. Thx in advance for any guidance...

Welcome to forum frankI don't know who is still working on QB64 2.X dualbrain most likely knows that. I'm pretty sure he is one but I think he is distracted by many other things, check out GotBasic on Discord. Would you mind reminding me the problems you have in mind for Win32? I don't follow issues that are recorded at github.

The problem is a build error that is explained under the download links here: qb64.com/

Hello, everyone! I used QB4.5 decades ago (mostly for myself [wrote a menu program so I wouldn't have to type long DOS commands] and a fairly decent scheduling system for work), and recently have a small project and wish I could whip out some code. Never got around to learning another language (like C++), and QB45 won't work on my 64-bit system. Very happy to have discovered QB64!

Welcome Lieuallen most QB4.5 programs should work in QB64, there are exceptions. Hopefully we can help with those and find work arounds.
I was very happy to learn the new things QB64 could do with great speed!

Do you use Linux? If so you could install DOSBOX and keep using old MSQB. This is if you depend a lot on the 16-bit code and it's hard to switch. Especially if you depend on QLB. That cannot be used in QB64, must find source code which is BASIC only. Cannot be assembly language because this is red herring to get it to work with "gcc" assembler. Especially if you have MAK files and you need it very much. In QB64 you will have to put the whole program together in one file or with include files.
If you have a lot of old code which uses ABSOLUTE and CALL INTERRUPT, it has to be only for graphics only. Maybe for mouse. QB64 doesn't recognize much else.
If your computer is getting on a bit, like slow hard disk then QB64 will be slow to develop with. One change in code requires recompilation and it cannot be like the 16-bit interpreter. But there is no other choice if you need EXE file to give to another person to use. Or if the program must be in 64-bit because it uses much memory than what could be done in 16-bit.
There is a price to pay for it though. At least 2GB disk space. For Wine (WINdows Emulator) and other dependencies. On Linux without Wine cannot run Windows applications.
Not saying this to scare anybody. Not advertising. Just in case you have Linux on your computer, you could still use MSQB if you really want to.

Yeah allot of people use DosBox to run the old stuff I hear. Also there are Virtual Machines that act like other OS's on your computer.
