Icons pointing to QB64 programs have always worked well in Win11 until the latest Win11 upgrade. Clicking onto a desktop icon now does not open the program, but drops the icon onto the taskbar, where it now will open. Interestingly, the icon will open the program if I click on it while holding down the shift key. I have reverted to a previous Win11 which used to work, but this has not now solved the problem. I have asked Windows 11 help, but they don't seem to have a clue, saying it is a QB64 problem. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome ozzieThanks for reporting this. I haven't a clue what's going on but on QB64 side of things I'd try toying around with ./ or is it just / or is it just . or is it? add or subtract for locating the path to the icon file. QB64 always sucked for some reason at finding the icon file. Haven't a clue what Windows 11 might have done, just another reason I am not eager to update to another Windows level. BTW make sure Run: Output EXE to Source Folder every time you update your QB64 version unless you purposely want the exe to go into your QB64 folder and clutter it up!

Bplus, I think he's talking about icon shortcuts on his desktop. Not using an icon in QB64.

Thanks Ultraman, I already know I am not the best comprehender of reading other people. OK so after these programs are compiled to exes, I would say it's a freak'n Windows problem ie the exe worked before the Windows 11 Update and stopped after updating. The only change was the update to Windows so the logical blame is windows Update. What say you Ultraman ? I can only suggest an experiment, try recompiling the bas's in the Updated Windows 11 version causing trouble? Now I am trying to remember: exe's still need asset files like sounds and images, to work so maybe they need icon files as well? My experience is that Icon files are notoriously funky ie very tempermental about pathing to correct folder while working in Windows while other asset files remain solid and dependable using the bas source folder as default folder for asset.

That sounds strange indeed. I am using Windows 11 Pro with the latest update and can not confirm this behaviour. I just compiled my early "Flood the Board"on Windows and added an icon on the desktop. It starts as intended after double clicking it.
